Abstract

Three projects are described in this doctoral thesis. The first project was carried out in cooperation between the institutes of chemistry, physics and electrical engineering. The focus here was on the development of new methods for efficient surface modification in ultra-high vacuum and the screening of promising functional groups that could be suitable as dipoles or anchoring groups for novel self-assembled monolayers. To this end, various compounds were synthesized during the project and subsequently tested at the Institute of Physics at RWTH Aachen University with regard to their properties as self-assembled monolayers. In the second project, a method for catalytic C-H functionalization of the 1*-position in ferrocenes was investigated. For this purpose, substrates with different directing groups were synthesized and compared using different catalysts and reaction conditions. The aim of the third project was to develop a method for the synthesis of sulphoximines from sulphonimidoyl chlorides and common coupling partners, e.g. boronic acids, by transition metal catalysis. Here, various substrates were prepared and converted under different reaction conditions.
