The formation and equilibrium of new hierarchical lithium-bridged titanium (IV) helicates are described as well as their usage as supramolecular catalysts. The studied systems consist of catechol ligands bearing a variety of functionalities in the 3 position. The influence of the side chains and other factors on the equilibrium between the dimeric and monomeric state observed in solution via NMR spectroscopy is investigated. The contribution of the type and strength of the donor atom to the equilibrium of the system was elucidated. The use of helicates as catalyst for Nitro-Michael reactions was also reported.
