Separation of "Lecture Moduls" and combined mandatory examinations
In the new examination regulations 2022, the "Lecture Moduls" and the combined mandatory examinations were separated:
- Each mandatory lecture has received its own module and is assigned to the “Mandatory Courses” of the specializations.Therefore, the combined mandatory examinations (SYN1, SYN2, CAT2, MES2, COS1, COS2) no longer take place on a common date.
- Each mandatory elective lecture has received its own module and is assigned to the “Mandatory Elective Courses” of the specializations.
Change to the examination regulations 2022
- With the change to the new examination regulations 2022, the passed combined mandatory examinations for the separate mandatory modules will be recognised. If you have only passed one part of a combined mandatory examination, it can be recognised by the Chemistry Examination Board upon application.
- The mandatory elective lectures must be assigned to the specialization or the “Additional Examinations" when changing.
"Mandatory Elective Courses" with flexible CP
Mandatory elective modules ranging from 8 to 10 CP must be completed in the "Mandatory Elective Courses" of specialization. In total, 18 CPs must be completed for the two "Mandatory Elective Courses".
With this new regulation, students can continue to complete 6 mandatory elective modules with 3 CP each, as in the old examination regulations. However, it is also possible to complete fewer mandatory elective modules which have more CP. Mandatory elective modules from other RWTH Aachen University faculties and especially modules from foreign universities often have more CP.
Examples:
- Specialization 1: 3 modules with 3 CP each (total 9 CP)
Specialization 2: 3 modules with 3 CP each (total 9 CP)
Total: 18 CP - Specialization 1: 1 module with 3 CP from RWTH Aachen University and 1 module with 7 CP from a stay abroad (total 10 CP)
Specialization 2: 1 module with 4 CP from RWTH Aachen University and 1 module with 4 CP from a stay abroad (total 8 CP)
Total: 18 CP
"Chosen Lecture Module" no longer required
The “Chosen Lecture Module” is no longer replaced in the new examination regulations 2022. Students who completed the module in the old examination regulations 2009 or as an master's module completed in advance can either assign the module to "Mandatory Elective Courses" or add it to the certificate as an additional examination.
"Elective courses" expanded to 6 CP
The module "Elective courses" has been expanded to 6 CP in the new examination regulations 2022.
Changes in language
The language requirements of the new examination regulations 2022 have been changed to “German and English”.
Important: Thechangeoftheexaminationregulationsisnotachangeofthedegreeprogram. Therefore, studentsdonothavetosubmitproofofEnglishwhenchangingtheexaminationregulations. Thisisonlyrequiredforstudentswhoareenrolling. EvenifproofofEnglishisnotrequiredwhenchangingtheexaminationregulations, EnglishknowledgeofatleastlevelB2isrequiredforthecoursesofthenewexaminationregulations.
Mandatory modules can now also be offered in English. The following mandatory modules are only available in English:
- Applied Molecular Catalysis (Angewandte molekulare Katalyse) (mandatory in CAT and SYN)
- Colloid Chemistry (Kolloidchemie) (mandatory in MES)
- Computer Simulation and Spectroscopy of Solids (Computersimulation und Spektroskopie an Festkörpern) (mandatory in COS)
- Heterogeneous Catalysis and Environmental Catalysis (Heterogene Katalyse und Katalyse in der Umwelttechnik) (mandatory in CAT)
- Reaction Engineering (Reaktionstechnik)(mandatory in CAT)
- Soft Matter Nanoscience (Soft Matter Nanoscience) (mandatory in MES and SYN)
- Structures and Properties of Macromolecules and Polymeric Materials (Strukturen und Eigenschaften von Makromolekülen und Polymermaterialien) (mandatory in MES)
