Change of examination regulations

A voluntary change of the examination regulations is possible (§16 (3) of the new examination regulations). The application must be submitted within certain deadlines:

• by August, 21th for a change to the winter semester
• by February, 21th for a change to the summer semester.

After a change to the new examination regulations, a change back to the old examination regulations is excluded!

The new examination regulations 2022 set a transitional period for the old examination regulations (§16 (3)):

"Students who have enrolled in the Master’s program in Chemistry be fore the summer semester 2022 ... may study at the latest until the summer semester 2024 according to the examination regulations of July, 24th 2009 in the current version. After the end of the summer semester 2024, a change to the new examination regulations is mandatory."

Most of the achievements in the old examination regulations are automatically recognized in accordance with the equivalence list of the new examination regulations when you change:

• As far as "Research Internships" are concerned, they are automatically recognized.
• Passing and failing "Mandatory examinations" and "Mandatory Elective examinations" are automatically recognized.
  Exception: If you have failed only one part of a combined mandatory examinations (SYN1, CAT2 ...), please indicate this in the application form. Then the passed part is recognized.
• If you have completed a module with a German title, which has an English title in the new examination regulations, then the module with the English title will be recognized.
• If you have completed more "Mandatory Elective examinations" or "Elective Courses" than you need, please indicate in the application form which ones are to be recognized for the "Mandatory Elective Courses" or "Elective Courses". The other modules can be recognized as "Additional Examinations".

Some examinations taken in the old examination regulations are not listed in the equivalence list of the new examination regulations. Nevertheless, they can be recognized on application. If you wish to be recognized, please indicate these examinations in the application form:

• If you have passed a module that is no longer offered in the new examination regulations (e. g. "Microwave Spectroscopy"), then it can still be recognized for the "Mandatory Elective Courses" or as an "Additional Examination".
• The “Chosen Lecture Module” is no longer replaced in the new examination regulations. If you have completed the module in the old examination regulations, then the module can be recognized for the "Mandatory Elective Courses" or as an "Additional Examination".

According to § 8 of the Comprehensive Examination Regulations, "Additional Examinations" are “incorporated with their results into the certificate as an additional performance, but are not included in the determination of the overall grade.”

The assignment of "Mandatory elective Courses" and "Elective Courses" as well as the "Additional Examinations" specified by you in the application form may be determined retrospectively in accordance with § 8: "The declaration must be submitted in writing or electronically to the ZPA within one week of the announcement of the final examination result of the respective degree program."
