About the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry belongs to the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences (Fakulty 1) of the RWTH Aachen University, and is thus linked with the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Informatics, and Biology. The current structure of the Department of Chemistry as well as future development plans are defined in the Departamental Structural Plan, which was passed by the governing board of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences on 7 May 1997.

The five sections of the Department of Chemistry

The Department consists of five administrative sections:

  • Institute of Inorganic Chemistry (IAC)
  • Institute of Organic Chemistry (IOC)
  • Institute of Physical Chemistry (IPC)
  • Institute of Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry (ITMC)

The DWI (formerly German Wool Research Institute) is affiliated with RWTH Aachen University, and is closely associated with the Department of Chemistry. The Chair in Textile and Macromolecular Chemistry (MCI) also serves as the director of the DWI.
